Tactic Ball’s base ruleset is designed for anyone to pick up in fifteen minutes. But competitive play deserves competitive rules. After six months of testing with our most experienced playtesters, the Tournament Edition ruleset is ready to share.
Rule 1: Formation Draft. Instead of choosing formations privately, both players draft from a shared pool of six formations (three per player). This creates a meta-game of counter-formation selection that rewards knowledge of formation matchups. Rule 2: Sealed Deck Construction. Players build a 30-card deck from a common pool before the match, rather than using the pre-built formation decks. Deck construction becomes a skill layer.
Rule 3: No Reshuffle. The standard halftime reshuffle is removed. You play your 30-card deck once. Hand management and deck awareness become critical from turn one. Rule 4: Sudden Death Extra Time. If the match ends level after 20 turns, each player draws five cards and plays one additional “Golden Goal” turn. The first Goal Chance activated wins immediately. Rule 5: Sideline Challenges. Each player has one formal challenge per match — if you believe your opponent made an illegal move, you call a challenge. If upheld, you draw two cards. If rejected, you lose one.
The Tournament Edition doesn’t replace the base game. It’s for players who have mastered the fundamentals and want a higher stakes experience. We’ll be using these rules for the official launch tournament, details to be announced in the coming weeks.
